However, Netflix has announced a brand new movie for the fans of Geralt of Rivia. The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, the upcoming dark fantasy 2D movie. Will focus on the origins and life story of Geralt’s master Vesemir. Last year in January 2020, the media giant announced an animated adaption of the famous show Witcher. 

Netflix, in the announcement, also stated that the work was on, and the Korean studio, Studio Mir was given the task. Nightmare of the wolf will be a spin-off movie to the original series The Witcher. This expanded new movie will also be a prequel to the original series, waiting for its second season release this December 17th.

Geralt of Rivia is no longer the main character in the new movie. Instead, this new movie will sing songs of the mentor and fellow witcher, Vesemir. But Vesemir is not the only one in the new movie. Nightmare of the wolf has a dynamic list of characters to give a whole new dimension to the franchise.

Vesemir, Voiced by Theo James

Vesemir was a father figure to Geralt of Rivia. Vesemir was not only Geralt’s friend but also his mentor. The new movie dives into Vesemir’s past his as a young and ambitious witcher. In contrast to Geralt. He took the job in a more lucrative way than a heroic responsibility. Vesemir will be voiced by Theo James, best known for his role as the forge master Hector from Castlevania and his works from the Divergent adult series.

Tetra, Voiced by Lara Pulver

The recently released trailer gave us a glimpse of the powerful sorceress Tetra Gilcrest. A descendent from one of the very first mages. Treta’s goal is to prevent magic from being misused. 

Lara Pulver will voice the character we know from the voice of Mirana, Dota: Dragon’s Blood.

Lady Zerbst, voiced by Mary McDonnell

Witcher’s are not always respected by others. But Zerbst, who took her husband’s place in the king’s advisory council, is known as a massive supporter of the monster-hunting creatures. From the trailer itself, it is not clear how she is related to Vesemir. It will be interesting to see both of their paths crossing.

She will be voiced by the experienced and two times Oscar nominee actress Mary McDonnel. Known for her movie Donnie Darko.

Deglan, voiced by Graham McTavish

Deglan is a hardened warrior leader of the witchers. Is shown as very loyal and protective towards his men. Deglan who have spent a lot of his time in the Skellige Isles. He has a very significant role in Vesemir’s journey of becoming a Witcher. 

As Deglan claims, Vesemir by the law of surprise. And will indeed have an impacting role in Vesemir’s journey. This great leader is voiced by Graham McTavish, who will be seen as Dijkstra. In the upcoming season 2 of The Witcher this December.

Release Date And Trailer Explained

The most awaited prequel, The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, will be released worldwide on August 23rd. Netflix announced the release date during the July 2021 Virtual Witcher Con.

After the teaser was released, Netflix finally released a full trailer. And we tell you it is full of monsters. Netflix’s new Witcher movie is entirely a different experience. With many yet to be introduced cast in the live-action series. 

Suppose you are a fan of the book by the Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. Then this new movie might upset you a little bit. This upcoming movie will create an entirely new plot as the movie talks about Vesemir, who will be seen in the upcoming second season of the live-action series.

The trailer talks about Vesemir, the fan-favorite from both the book and the video games. Who grew up as a servant and worked for long days for little coins on a noble man’s estate. Vesemir is described as a charming monster who yearns to break free of his slavery. And wants to journey the world and explore the continents in a quest to find his destiny. 

However, While on his journey, Vesemir comes across Tetra, the powerful sorceress, and he comes to know about the rise of a new power on the continent, which will make him realize that there is more than just slaughtering monsters for coins. Even though Vesemir is regarded as a father figure for Geralt, this entire story will occur before Geralt was born.

In an interview showrunner, DeMayo explained how they couldn’t have told this story through live-action. But, like the way the story shapes or forms, at least not without an incredible burden on the production team.

Synopsis

The new movie The Witcher: Nightmare of the wolf was scripted by Beau DeMayo. DeMayo has also worked on the third episode of the original live-action series. He is also on the writing team for the MCU and Disney+ series “Moon Knight.” Lauren Hissrich, who is also the showrunner for the movie, is also on the writing team.

The studio working on the animation is studio Mir, known for their excellent work for Korra, the Spin-off of Avatar: The Last Air Bender. The movie is slated to be released on August 23rd on Netflix.

The trailer gives us a look at the animation, which is at par with other Netflix Origin animes. The entire movie will be of 1 hour and 21 minutes. This information was posted on Netflix’s landing page for the movie. But was later taken down. If this movie is a success, we can hope for some more expansion of the Witcher world shortly.
