Ethan Hunt is a fictional agent that has been around for almost three long decades. Ever since his first mission, his tasks have only got more dangerous and daunting than the last. Fans are now impressed up to the point that they worship Tom Cruise as one of the few gods of Hollywood action! And when it comes to Ethan Hunt, he’s been around to save the world for as long as we can remember. With all this in mind, it is exciting to announce that Ethan and the gang are now returning for another mission as part of the IMF. In addition, it has been confirmed that Mission Impossible 7 is set to hit theatres next year! Let’s explore some interesting dynamics of the series and see what all we can expect:
Christopher McQuarrie returns as the director of the series!
One of the best factors of the movie is the director, who is coming back once again for the series. For the third time in a row, Christopher McQuarrie is coming back as the director for the 7th movie. He has been associated with Tom Cruise for so long. And it’s not just with Mission Impossible.
When it comes to the many movie series with Tom Cruise as the main star, they have both worked in sync with each other for so many years now! Together they have made some epic blockbusters such as the Jack Reacher movies, Edge of Tomorrow, Valkyrie, and even The Mummy. The surprising news is that McQuarrie is also one of the core screenwriters of the next Top Gun sequel, which will have Tom Cruise reprise his legendary character of Lt. Pete “Maverick” Mitchell.
It is great to see that both these guys working together guarantees that this upcoming movie will surely be a theatre experience that the world has to witness at all costs! And let us not forget, Mr. McQuarrie is best known for winning his Academy Award for his brilliant screenplay of the famous crime and heist movie, The Usual Suspects!
The original cast with some new flames!
If there’s anything significant about any movie series at all, it’s the cast that constantly comes back for more and more movies. Some legendary characters are now going to be brought back to the screen. With Tom Cruise, we also have Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Rebecca Ferguson, and Vanessa Kirby reprising their roles from the previous movies. That is Benji Dunn, Luther Stickell, Ilsa Faust, and Alanna Mistopolis coming in for the ride along with Hunt!
But other than the original cast, there are a few mind-blowing additions along with a very special comeback. For the first time in 26 years, Henry Czerny, who portrayed Eugene Kittridge, who is known as the former director of the IMF, is going to star in the Mission Impossible movies. This is after 26 long years, after his appearance in the first movie. So it is a big surprise to have the man on board. It will be something to look forward to this character after so long.
Some other cast members who have been very known in the Hollywood industry have also been welcomed to the MI family for several years. We have Hayley Atwell, Shea Whigham, Rob Delaney, Pom Klementieff, Mark Gatiss, Indira Varma, among many others, who have been cast as some of the most bankable stars. But all their roles are currently undisclosed as of now. Does Jeremy Renner come back as well? We never know!
Esai Morales, who is known for roles in Ozark and Resurrection Blvd., is also coming in as the main antagonist for the new film. He is said to bring some extraordinary power to the cast! Let us wait and find out!
The Polish Bridge controversy
Now, it so happened that an interesting case came up during the production of the seventh movie. There was a plan to blow up a bridge as a sequence set in the Alps in Switzerland. It included a train going 60 miles an hour, and at the same time, the bridge it was traveling on would blow up.
Therefore, SkyDance media, the production house, went on a search for unwanted bridges. Eventually, they found one. It was found through the American-Polish film producer, Andrew Eksner. In November 2019, the Polish State Railways proposed the idea to Eksner to use a 151-meter-long German-riveted bridge post-1908 over Lake Pilchowickie. McQuarrie and the cast landed there in deep secrecy to inspect the area for filming.
When the idea came, local authorities and museum officials opposed blowing up the bridge instead of using CGI effects to achieve the action sequence. The filmmakers and government were pretty adamant about explaining how the bridge was outdated and was intended for demolition.
But when July 2020 came, railway enthusiasts protested the idea, and then many explanations were given. Finally, in August 2020, McQuarrie, as director, told people that only a small set of bridges was to be demolished as the area has been outdated and has not been used for years. Only the unsafe and already damaged portions of the bridge were to be demolished. After explaining this, he apologized to the many enthusiasts and the many locals that may have been affected by this decision. Cruise also stated that the bridge needed to be rebuilt to be later opened up for travel and tourism. But in May 2021, Eksner sued Paramount productions which includes McQuarrie and Cruise, as the prominent crew members, for breach of contract with the International Committee for Conservation of the Industrial Heritage.
Mission Impossible 8 is confirmed for 2023!
The good news for all the Mission Impossible fans is going to excite them! With the 7th part all set to release in May next year, there is still more! An 8th part has also been confirmed with the same cast and crew coming back! So that means two Mission Impossible movies are coming back-to-back with Agent Hunt as the main protagonist once again.
Esai Morales will also be reprising his role as the main antagonist for the 8th movie, as confirmed by reports. So, at this point, there is nothing more left to say besides the fact that this particular series is about to drop many bombs. The excellent cast and crew have been working effortlessly, and they are now also working towards the 8th one. It looks like Ethan Hunt and the gang are not looking to retire from the IMF anytime soon. Mission Impossible 7 hits theatres on May 27th, 2022. Strap in for another mission, should you choose to accept it.
