Manifest, a supernatural drama that aired on NBC in September 2018, recently completed three seasons. But NBC has announced that it will not continue to make further seasons for the show. Seasons 3 released on April 1, 2021, with 13 episodes. The viewership of the show decreased every season, which may have been one of the many reasons for the show to be cancelled.
The Journey so Far
The story revolved around Montego Air Flight 828, which returned from Jamaica to New York City after five years of taking off. But the time in the flight did not pass as fast as it did on earth. The passengers were oblivious that they had been missing and presumed dead for five years along with the flight. The only problem they faced up in the air was turbulence.
In the first season, the passengers who returned from Flight 828 started realizing that they had miraculously gotten the ability to know, see and hear things they weren’t supposed to. Ben and Michaela Stone’s main characters started calling their abilities to hear and see things “Calling”. They started following their callings and completed all the tasks as asked by those callings. It included saving people’s lives most of the time.
The passengers, upon returning, had discovered that they had to mend and get back several relationships. People on earth had moved on from their lives with passengers. However, they also had to deal with certain angry and misguided people, who believed that the passengers were bad.
The show goes on to uncover some confusing yet surprising truth behind the disappearance of flight 828. The passengers start facing several difficulties, including the government targeting them to find out the mystery behind the disappearance and reappearance of Flight 828. Especially The Major, an anonymous person who was authorizing the testing of the passengers.
The first season ends with a huge cliffhanger where a fight between Zeke and Jared ends up in a bullet being fired as soon as Michaela enters the house they were fighting in. The fans kept wondering who the bullet had hit though there were enough convincing theories that it might have hit Michaela, which ended up being true when season 2 came out.
Season 2 took us through numerous adventures, and more truth was revealed. A connection between flight 828 and a group of sailors from hundreds of years ago. A book with the story of those sailors described that they were experiencing the same things as these passengers.
They had also discovered that all the passengers had a death date, including Zeke. After completing every call, Zeke ends up surviving the death date, which gives hope to Ben and Michaela. They decide to save their and their loved ones’ lives by following the callings.
On the Other side Saanvi upon discovering the truth about The Major, confronted her. Saanvi accidentally ends up killing her. The season ends with some fishermen finding the tailfin from the same Flight, 828, which surfaced from the bottom of the ocean. The fans were left confused as to how the tailfin ended up in the ocean.
Season 3 begins with Ben finding the same tailfin along with Robert Vance. The tailfin ends up pushing Ben away, which puts them in trouble. Ben gets out of it, but Vance stays behind. But to save Vance, Ben tells everyone the truth about the tailfin, which saves Vance and gives him a job, In charge of all the investigations Flight 828. The season gets intense when three Meth-heads who had previously drowned in the frozen lake, where Zeke had survived, returned. The Stones once again plan various things to save themselves from those three people, just long enough till their (The Meth-heads) death date.
Two new characters, as passengers, were introduced and were made a major part of the season. Angelina and Eagen. Angelina gets rescued by Michaela and Zeke from her parents’ house and is given shelter by the Stones. However, later she gets attached to one of the Meth-heads. Tarik, Grace’s stepbrother, introduced in Season 3, ends up saying goodbye to his Manifest journey when one of the meth-heads kills him.
The story of the Meth-heads, which everyone had assumed wrong, turns out tragic for all of them. All three of them died on their death dates when only one of them was expected to. However, Angelina’s behaviour starts changing after the incident, and she tries more than needed to fit in with the Stones.
The NSA begins testing and experimenting with tailfin and the rest of flight 828. But, unfortunately, they also find a price of wood, which they believed was a piece of Noah’s Ark. Noah, who was believed to be the saviour of humanity, is revealed to be quite the opposite.
Things get worse when the experiments start to get severe and endanger the lives of all passengers. Saanvi saves herself and the others by returning the piece of Noah’s ark where it belonged. She also gains redemption by accepting her truth about killing the Major. She also apparently saves Cal’s life by returning the tailfin to the ocean.
But back home, Cal returns significantly older than his previous self. We can only assume that he was now as old as his twin Olive. But finds Grace on her deathbed, stabbed by Angelina, who went back to get Eden, her so-called “Guardian angel”.
What Happened to Season 4?
The last season left many cliffhangers. So many questions to be answered, but the show has been reportedly cancelled. NBC has cancelled any further seasons for Manifest. This devastating news left many fans furious and upset. There was also a hashtag running around on social media, #savemanifest.

The show was supposed to have at least six seasons, according to the makers. But the news is that it is going to end only with three seasons. Fans are still hoping to get at least another season to get answers to the questions the previous season left with. We have to wait for the truth to Surface.
It leaves with only assumptions if any other company is ready to make more seasons for Manifest, but the consistently decreasing view count gives very few chances for the show’s renewal.
