War! One of the few genres that leave audiences in suspense and chills. Especially because there have been movies based on real-life events, whose visuals stun us to such unimaginable feats. Great and eminent directors over the years have all drawn their perspectives and have made movies based on their own perception of war. While some may be filled with action and adrenaline, others may also be filled with satirical emotions. War is really one of the best genres to ever take the stand in cinematic history. From the mind of the one and only, Quentin Tarantino, this movie is really a big brainchild creation. The movie is set in the time of the Second World War, where the German Empire is at the hierarchy of world domination. It is set on the story of a few Jewish soldiers of American descent, who are on an undercover mission to exploit and eliminate as many Nazi soldiers as possible. Meanwhile, another parallel plot plays in the mix.

A French woman is also out for revenge to murder a German soldier who once killed her entire family when she was young. This movie is really one of the most prominent works of Tarantino as a director, to which he quotes in the final dialogue of the movie saying, “I think this might just be my masterpiece.” The line is a reference to Tarantino’s hard work that has been invested in the movie for 10 long years. The movie stars Brad Pitt, Christoph Waltz, and Diane Kruger in the main roles.

Saving Private Ryan

Arguably the best war movie of all time, Saving Private Ryan is one of the war movies that take the billionaire director Steven Spielberg right into the hall of fame. This movie, along with Schindler’s List, puts Spielberg in the list of best directors of all time. The movie is set again in the WWII era during the Normandy invasion. Captain John Miller, which is portrayed by Tom Hanks, is assigned the very task of finding Private James Ryan, which is portrayed by none other than Matt Damon.

Private Ryan has already lost his three brothers to the war. This movie will capture your eyes from the opening scene of D-Day and will take you on a 3-hour emotional and action-filled joyride. It really tests the cinematic bravery of shooting several scenes in real-time. And for this effort, we commend Steven Spielberg for putting up something as creative and breath-taking. Steven Spielberg won the Academy Award for Best Director for this one!

Undoubtedly Spielberg’s greatest creation, Schindler’s List takes on the most realistic perspective of the Second World War through the eyes of Liam Neeson’s, Oskar Schindler. Oskar, who is a German industrialist, takes on the mantle of hiring a few Jewish employees to save their livelihood during their time of the war.

It’s an emotional ride as this movie makes a rich connection between a German industrialist and Jewish workers and laborers, who at the time were two parties in great contradiction from one another. The movie also features Ben Kingsley and Ralph Fiennes in supporting roles. The movie won the Academy Award for Best Picture and Steven Spielberg won his second Academy Award for Best Director for the movie.

Zero Dark Thirty

Mentioning again one of the greats, as this movie made headlines the time it came out! Based on Operation Neptune Spear, this movie is based on the international manhunt for the mastermind of the 9/11 attacks, Osama Bin Laden. The movie stars Jessica Chastain in the main role as a CIA intelligence analyst. This movie is directed by Katheryn Bigelow, who has made her name with movies like The Hurt Locker, Point Break, and others. The movie won the Academy Award for Best Sound Editing.

American Sniper

If there is one movie that truly respects action and adrenaline, then it is definitely American Sniper. Directed by the one and only Spaghetti Western star, Clint Eastwood, this movie stars Bradley Cooper in the main role as Chris Kyle, a SEAL sniper. Chris returns from the horrific events of the Iraq War, but cannot let go of the traumatic experiences he had during his served time. That is when he comes back and faces difficulty in finding normalcy, which ends up causing problems in his family and marriage. One to put on the list!

It stars Benedict Cumberbatch in the titular role, along with Keira Knightley. Alan Turing, a great mathematician of his time, joins a cryptography time to decipher the German enigma code which brings down the German forces. The movie is an emotional ride during Alan’s biography going through the frame. It even explores the different themes of war.

Directed by the one and only, Cary Joji Fukunaga, this movie is an adaptation of the American-Ghanian war book of the same name. It’s based on a Civil War that breaks out in West Africa in an unspecified country. Idris Elba plays one of the main roles as Commandant, where he trains a young orphan named Agu, who he is preparing to fight for guerrilla warfare. The movie is built on serious suspense as certain plot twists take place in different factions of the movie. Its action is filled with a little philosophical touch.

The movie also stars Shia Labeouf, Jon Bernthal, Logan, Lerman, and Michael Pena in the main roles as well!
