Aretha Franklin was one of the greatest singers of America from her generation. The singer, songwriter, actress, the activist had done it all. Hence it is not a surprise when MGM decides to narrate her story on screen. The veteran singer sadly passed away last year. So this is going to be a great way to remember her contributions to society.

Directed by Liesl Tommy, the film will be a homage to her memory. With Tommy expected to show the journey Aretha had to make in her life. It was not easy for a woman of African-American descent. But she made it possible. And more people deserve to know about her extraordinary life.

When is Respect Releasing?

The film is in production for a long time, with Aretha Franklin being heavily involve with the movie in the first few weeks. Once the filming concluded earlier this year, the film looked to stick with its release in August 2020.

However, theaters around the world are forced to remain closed due to the pandemic. As a result, the chances of a Summer release dissipated quickly. The film was pushed back to the holidays, opening in theaters across the US on Christmas Day. But later on, that plan scrapped once again. Respect has finally settled for a release on January 15, 2021. Indeed it is not going to be delay any further.

The film is expected to pack several impressive acting performances. That is a given considering the list of actors set to appear in the biography. Appearing as Aretha will be Jennifer Hudson. With Forest Whitaker cast as C. L. Franklin.

Joining them are Marlon Wayans, Audra McDonald, and Marc Maron. Other members of the cast also include Tituss Burgess, Saycon Sengbloh, and Hailey Kilgore. Finally, Tate Donovan, Mary J. Blige, and Heather Headley appear in other minor roles.
