DC and Marvel have given us several superheroes, some of which we know about so well as if they exist in our world. Unfortunately, the reel world limits its powers. The few common favorites are well known among everyone, but last year DC came out with an origin movie of one of the lesser-known superheroes in the DCEU, Shazam. Quite surprisingly, it became a big hit when it hit the theatres in early 2019. The director of hit thrillers like Lights Out and Annabelle: Creation is back directing the Shazam! Fury of the Gods. This superhero franchise has got it all sorted for a while, with another movie based on the rival antagonist named Black Adam will follow the sequel soon. For now, let’s just keep it to the Shazam! Sequel now and find out its release date and other updates on it.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods: Release date
DC has several big titles lined up for release in the coming two years, including Black Adam, Suicide Squad, and Flash. The Shazam sequel was initially placed late in the DC 2022 calendar until recently, DC rescheduled movies like The Batman and Flash, including others. The earlier November 2022 release date has now moved further back to the summer of 2023.
However, the release date delay hasn’t put the filming of the movie off track. Some part of it was already disrupted when the Corona Pandemic destroyed the plans to start shooting in Spring 2020. The director recently announced that the movie will start filming on its new due course in early 2021. The other major reason to push back the date was to avoid Warner Bros’ loss by clashing two of its movies.
Since the movie has not undergone the production path as of now, DC has kept the plot of the movie well kept. However, its safe to say it will follow the teasing loose end at the end of the first part and continue with the idea ahead. If that is the case, we can hope to see Mastermind and Dr. Sivana befriending each other to take over the seven magical realms. Interestingly, Shazam will not be alone this time fighting all the evil business. Along with Freddy as his reliable sidekick, he will have his Shazam family to support him on his side.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods: Cast
No official cast has been declaring yet for the movie. However, this movie is a sequel; it is no surprise that some inseparable characters essential to the story will be back for the upcoming film. Zachary Levi will be back as Shazam along with Asher Angel and Adam Brody, who play Billy Batson and Freddy Freeman, respectively. The movie’s supposed villains will also be back, including Mark Strong as Dr. Sivana and Sandberg, and the director will most likely voice the character Master Mind.
The superhero action in the coming years will be a lot more intense than it has ever been. So, look out for this one because it definitely looks promising.
