Black Panther 2 Release Date, Plot, Cast, and All Latest Update

Black Panther 2 Movie Poster

Black Panther was one of the biggest hits of the MCU. Directed by Ryan Coogler in 2018, the movie was the first-ever black superhero centered film. The movie won three Oscars and still holds the record for the most Academy Awards winning Comic book, superhero movie. MCU had great plans for the future of the Black Panther character and movie franchise, but this was before the death of Chadwick Boseman on August 28, 2020, after losing the fight to stage four cancer. Disney and Marvel Studios have since remained quiet regarding the future of Black Panther. Marvel head Kevin Fiege said that currently, they had not given any thought to the casting of Black Panther. Instead, they are still grieving from the loss.

Here is everything to know about the future of Black Panther 2 after the death of Chadwick Boseman.

Black Panther 2 Release Date

The first Black Panther movie came out on January 29, 2018. However, Black Panther made its debut long before, in 2016, during Captain America: Civil War. Black Panther 2 will release on May 6, 2022. The coronavirus outbreak has shifted many MCU projects releases further, but Black Panther 2 remains set to release on the given date even after the main actor’s death. However, the officials have yet to make a statement.

Who will be the New Black Panther, and who will Reprise Their Role?

After the demise of Chadwick Boseman, fans have been continuously asking about the recasting of the character. While Marvel has re-casted many of their prominent characters like Hulk, War Machine, and Thanos previously, recasting Black Panther now would sure seem like a challenge. Many fans believe that the MCU must altogether avoid recasting the character; some say Marvel should let Shuri (Letitia Wright) take up the mantle of Black Panther like in comics. Some also prefer bringing back Michael B. Jordan (who played Kill Monger in the first film) and make him the new Black Panther.

However, the rest of the cast members confirmed to reprise their roles are Danai Gurira as Okoye, Winston Duke as M’Baku, and Lupita Nyong’ o as Nakia. Director Ryan Coogler will return to direct the second part. There are also rumors that Martin Freeman might also reprise his role as Captain Everett K Ross.

Black Panther 2 Plot

MCU has made no official announcement regarding the plot of Black Panther 2 yet. Disney likes to keep their mouth shut regarding such synopsis as they contain potential spoilers. However, fans have speculated that Black Panther 2 could finally be a debut movie for ‘Namor the Sub Mariner’ or ‘Doctor Doom’ or both. Both these characters have had a prominent role against Black Panther and Wakanda in the comics. If this is true, fans are indeed in for a treat. But this is still speculation, and Marvel might give some information in upcoming movie events or Comic-Cons.

Fans do miss and admire the work of Chadwick Boseman in bringing the character to live. His death will always remain a loss for many fans. Although, fans will have one more chance to see him or rather hear him as T’Challa in the upcoming Marvel’s ‘What If’ web series, which will feature Peter Quill and T’Challa will exchange their mantle as Star-Lord and Black Panther respectively.
