After a wait of over more than 30 years, fans of the Ghostbusters franchise have been expecting a sequel to the Ghostbusters II movie. However, they did get to see the comeback of their beloved busters but in the form of an all-female reboot in 2016. It didn’t live up to the high standards of the classic flicks. But the misery was soon compensated with news of a new movie in the series, a sequel to the 1989 Ghostbusters II (finally). The upcoming film is the fourth movie in the franchise and quite astonishingly still has some real connections to its prequel.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife Release Date
After such a long gap, which some of the fans aren’t even alive, the film is finally sure to make landfall. However, it’s no surprise that Ghostbusters: Afterlife must face the pandemic storm, and there must be some repercussions to be paid.
The movie is going to be out this July, but July has come and gone. The new date for its release is out for March 5, 2021. Let’s hope it doesn’t get any longer; otherwise, some more fans might not make it to 2021.
The good news is, principal photography for the movie going to start in July 2019 in Calgary and conclude a few months after in October. So, by the looks of it, everything seems just fine for the 2021 release.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife Plot
The new film comes down to the third generation of Ghostbusters, who are yet unaware of the ancestry. When Callie arrives in Oklahoma with her two kids to inherit property, they gradually uncover the dusty sheets from the legacy of their grandfather. They find some devices and the retro ghostbuster mobile. The question is: Will they follow the footsteps of their grandfather or put down what they’ve seen.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife Cast
The best thing about this upcoming movie is easily its cast. It’s surprising to know that some of its original cast members will be back in the sequel after 30 years. Not that this hasn’t happened with any other movie, but it makes the film more appealing.
Sigourney Weaver was the first one to announce her return to reprise her role as Dana Barrett. Her remark, “It’s going to be crazy working with the guys again.” was a, sure enough, a signal for other cast members to follow suit. Ernie Hudson, Aykroyd, and Bill Murray will reprise their roles as Winston Zeddemore, Ray Stantz, and Peter Venkman.
Unfortunately, Harold Ramis passed away in 2014, but the film will honor him with a fitting tribute. He played Dr. Egon Spengler in the movie.
Interestingly, the director of Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Jason Reitman, is the son of the franchise’s original director, Ivan Reitman.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife Teaser/Trailer
Sony released a trailer for the movie on December 9, 2019. Be sure to check it out.
Movies that have such long gaps rarely have such an intimate connection to their predecessors. This one makes things emotional and exciting, with a strong connection. 90s kids are going to be drooling over it.
