Films based on video games have come a long way in Hollywood. Initially, a lot of the films deviate from the original plot and weren’t faithful adaptations of the game. Most films were also receiving bad reviews by critics and fans worldwide. However, in recent years, video game-based films have improved drastically. Films like Pokemon Detective Pikachu and Sonic The Hedgehog had great storylines, fantastic visuals and were entertaining.
The first film based on the Mortal Kombat game series released in 1994. While the film earns praise for its action sequences and locations, it was criticized for the screenplay, bad acting and it’s PG-13 rating which significantly reduces the violence and gore, unlike the games. The film, however, is a successful box office hit and a sequel which turns out to be a lot worse than the original.
