Candyman is an upcoming American film based on the supernatural slasher. And the director of this film is Nia DaCosta, and the writer is Jordan Peele, Win Rosenfeld, and DaCosta. It is a direct sequel to the 1992 film of the same name. And the fourth film in the Candyman film series, based on the short story, “The Forbidden” by Clive Barker.

The upcoming Candyman movie is the sequel to the Candyman 1992, almost three decades back. It will also be the fourth film of the Candyman franchise. From Director Nia DaCosta and writer Jordan Peele and Win Rosenfeld, Candyman has many of their actors returning, some even from the 1992 movie. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will play the role of grown-up Anthony McCoy, who was just a baby in the first part. Tony Todd will still play the role of the real star of the Movie, the Candyman. Alongside Mateen is Teyonah Parris as Brianna Cartwright in a supporting role. Others include Virginia Madsen as Helen Lyle, Vanessa Estelle Williams as Anne-Marie McCoy, Nathan Stewart as Troy Cartwright, Colman Domingo as William Burke, Rebecca Spence as Finley Stephens, and few more.
What Could We Expect to See from the Released Trailer?
Universal has already released not one, but two trailers for the upcoming Candyman movie. The first trailer came out in late February. The trailer tells the urban legend of saying his name in the mirror five times, which causes him to appear and kill the person. It also introduces us to the main protagonist of our Movie, the now-a-grown up man, Anthony McCoy, who moves into the town with the wandering Candyman searching for him.
The second teaser came out in June when director Nia DaCosta shared it on her Twitter account. A full two-minute trailer was released soon after. The second trailer managed to win the heart of the masses alone by showing the backstory of Candyman’s legend and other horrific mistreatments of people on the base of race and how will this tie into the Movie, all delivered in a puppet storytelling way.
The plot of the Movie, and How Does it Tie to Other Parts of the Franchise?
Even though the Movie is the fourth part of the franchise, the storyline is a direct sequel to the 1992 Candyman movie. This means that the film will skip right past the events of Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh (1995) and Candyman: Day of the Dead (1999). The Movie is based on a short story called ‘Forbidden’ from Clive Barker’s ‘Books’ of Blood Series.
Anthony McCoy who moves into a new town that has an urban legend about a monster named Candyman. He is soon exposed to the tragically horrific nature of the real story behind Candyman. He explores these details in his studio as grist for paintings, but unknowingly brings something far worse.
