The plot is premising on a real-life incident. It will follow the case of Arne Cheyenne Johnson. Johnson, in 1981, was legally charged for manslaughter. He claimed that the murder of his landlord took place under demonic possession.

This chilling story of terror and murder shocks the experienced paranormal investigators. The duo looks into it and investigates the possession of 11-year-old David Glatzel in 1980. This opens to them the most uncanny case they had ever investigated. It is for the first time in US history that the suspect claims of demonic possession as a defense. Hence, The Conjuring 3 centers itself on the case of Arne Cheyenne Johnson in 1981.
