God of War, which rebooted in 2018, is easily one of the best games to release on PS4. Developed by Santa Monica Studio, the latest edition of the third-person action-adventure game, God of War brings back Kratos to the ancient land rooted in Norse mythology, set in Norway in the Midgard realm. Kratos returns with a mission to protect his son, Atreus, and they accompany each other in discovering the Norse world as they encounter monsters and Gods in their mythic journey.

1) The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Developed and published by Polish developer CD Projekt Red, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, like God of War, takes place in a fictional fantasy world and rooted in Slavonic mythology. The game released in 2015 and played through a third-person perspective. Players control Geralt of Rivia, aka Witcher, who slays the monsters. The Witcher is on a lookout for his adopted daughter, who is on the run from the Wild Hunt.

While The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was initially available on PS4, Xbox, and Microsoft Windows, in October 2019, as a surprise to the fans, a Nintendo Switch version released. The PS5 and Xbox Series, X/S versions, are speculated to release by 2021.

2) For Honor

With a historical touch and a medieval setting, For Honor, which developed and published in 2017 by Ubisoft, can be played from a third-person perspective. Four different factions are available for the Players, i.e., the Iron Legion (Knights), the Warborn (Vikings), the Dawn Empire (Samurai), and Wu Lin as the Chinese warrior, which was the latest addition added in October 2018. The game is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows.

3) Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice

Developed and published by Ninja Theory, Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice is a dark fantasy action-adventure game, and like the God of War, you can trace the Norse mythology here.  You will find a blend of several genres here, including ‘hack and slash,’ thrilling psychological horror, and also puzzle-solving.

The setting of the game is in the 8th century, and Senua, a Pict warrior, battles entities from the otherworld to make it to Helheim so that she could save her dead lover from the goddess Hela. The game is available on PS4 and Microsoft Office from 2017. It made it to Xbox One in 2018 and the following year on Nintendo Switch.

4) Horizon Zero Dawn

Developed by Guerrilla Games, the role-playing action game, Horizon Zero Dawn, released on PS4 in 2017 and Microsoft Windows recently in 2020.

Aloy, the protagonist of the game, is a hunter who wants to discover his past. He needs to fend off mechanical creatures and uses ranged weapons for this. He is also awarded new abilities from a skilled tree.

5) Ghost Of Tsushima

Developed by Sucker Punch Productions, Ghost of Tsushima is available on PS4 since July 2020. This action-adventure stealth game which you can play from a third-person perspective.

At the center of the game is a samurai during the first Mongol invasion of Japan, and he has undertaken a journey to save Tsushima Island.
