The third instalment of the Homeworld series is coming in after a long wait! And the more we know about details of the story and gameplay in Homeworld 3, the more frustrated we get.
Homeworld was released in 1999, followed by Homeworld 2 in 2003, but there has been a long wait ever since for the series to continue.
The game Science Fiction follows the Kushans story. After their home planet is destroyed, the Kushans seek refuge in Kharak. They must travel back to their home planet, reclaiming it from the Taiidan.
Homeworld 3 Release Date: When will it be released?
Finally, Homeworld 3 was revealed in 2019, which awakens the show from more than a decade and a half of deep sleep. The keys of the Homeworld series have now moved from Sierra to Gearbox. Last year it was they who officially announced Homeworld 3 at PAX West.
The final date for Homeworld 3 is yet to be revealed to developers. Though we know for sure, the game will be released in 2022 somewhere.
Homeworld 3 Story: What will the story entail?
The first game revolves around the story of a humanoid race named the Kushan, who found a ship capable of navigating hyperspace and uses it to invade their long-lost homeworld, Hiigara. They find their planet under attack in Homeworld 2 after retaking Hiigara at the end of the first game and must pursue a new journey to save it.
Homeworld 3 Gameplay: What will it be like?
There haven’t been any official leaks regarding the story. So not many Homeworld 3 gameplay specifics exist as of yet. Yet we know that they plan to follow in the footsteps of the rest of the series, which means fights in space, using three-dimensional technology in real-time tactics. This aspect left other popular RTS games like Command and Conquer a bit flat when compared back in the day.
The creators of the game said ” It is our goal to have ballistics be the main method of the ship to ship fight in Homeworld 3.
Our aim is for all ships to function on projectile-based ballistics and that they are fully simulated in a perfect way. Which in turn will definitely benefit the game and increase the significance of the gameplay in a number of ways. Ships will shoot at vessels and even if another ship blocks the view of the target, the weapon will keep shooting.
Units will have the ability to block incoming fire for other ships, in ways that consist of either sacrificing themselves to save a more valuable unit or to make use of their heavier armour or the newly introduced higher health pool to protect more vulnerable ships.”
