The film isn’t too far along to wait for its release, but in terms of knowing much of it, it’s still too far off. But for what’s known about it, the sequel will take place in the present day, which will be the present day of the current MCU, after the Avengers: Endgame taking a five-year-jump, i.e. to 2023.

Though Captain Marvel didn’t feature too much in the Endgame, she helped in the final battle. Captain Marvel played a significant role with the Avengers to defeat Thanos, and she was seen at Tony Stark’s memorial as well, but that was all we saw of her. It’s anyone’s best guess as to how the story will play out.

There are some hints found in WandaVision as the show will feature a grown-up Monica Rambeau, and as the comic fans know, Monica eventually takes on the mantle of Captain Marvel.

Though it’s too early for that to happen, it may be possible that they team up in the sequel; especially given that the sequel’s writer Megan McDonnell worked on WandaVision as well, so a crossover it’s too far-fetched.
