The Umbrella Academy is an American show based off a comic book series by Gerard Way under the same banner. The series is created for Netflix by Steve Blackman. A super-hero fiction drama with a hint of dark comedy, this show has built a huge audience worldwide. Season 1 is currently streaming on Netflix and a Season 2 is on its way. Read on to know everything about it.
The show was renewed for a second outing in April of 2019. The production for the same began in June 2019 and wrapped up in November the same year.
Luckily, we can say that Season 2 is just around the corner. It launches on July 31st, 2020.
WHAT HAPPENED IN SEASON 1 FINALE? ENDING EXPLAINED.
Season 1 OVERVIEW: The first season introduced us to the characters of The Monocle aka Sir Reginald Hargreeves (played by Colm Feore) and his seven super-powered adopted children, who he refers to by numbers which are assigned to the children in terms of “usefulness”, on whom he performs experiments for his personal interest. He forms The Umbrella Academy with them. The aim is to “save the world,” but we don’t know that for sure, yet.
Now, in the finale of Season 1, Number Five used his special time-travelling powers to save his siblings from the apocalypse caused by Number Seven, who was, until now, unaware of her superpowers.
Number Five decides to go back in time. He aims to give himself and the siblings another shot to prevent the apocalypse. He successfully disappears himself, Luther, Diego, Allison, Klaus, and the unconscious Vanya just as the apocalypse wipes away the Icarus Theater. (Source: Den of Geek)
PLOT: SEASON 2
The next outing could explore the Hargreeves in their history, the time before the apocalypse. How they come back to real-time may be discovered. Most of the plot threads will be picked up from the comic book, The Umbrella Academy: Dallas, the second out of the three books in the series, with twists, obviously, given the addition of characters alien to the comic books.
For now, this is all we have about the story in the future episodes.
WHO IS GOING TO STAR IN SEASON 2?
The Hargreeves siblings will be returning; Ellen Page as Vanya, Tom Hopper as Luther, Emmy Raver-Lampman as Allison, Robert Sheehan as Klaus, David Castañeda as Diego, Aidan Gallagher as Number Five and Ethan Hwang as Ben.
We will also be seeing some new faces, characters who are not in the original comic books. Ritu Arya has been cast as Lila, “a ‘chameleon’ with a twisted sense of humour who can be as brilliant or insane as the mission requires,” Yusuf Gatewood as Raymond, “a born leader and devoted husband” who possesses “the smarts, gravitas, and the confidence to never have to prove it to anyone,” and Marin Ireland as Sissy, “a fearless, no-nonsense mum from Texas” who got married “for all the wrong reasons.”
A show with absurd ideas and tremendously playful elements, 31st July cannot come soon enough.
