Star Trek: Discovery is no longer alone in the television universe. the show is being followed to the small screen by the follow-up to Next Generation Star Trek: Picard, the animated series Star Trek: Lower Decks and the drama of the Secret intelligence agency Star Trek: Section 31.
“The intention is to have some Star Trek in the air all the time, but not necessarily on top of each other,” confirmed Trek Overlord Alex Kurtzman in an interview in April 2019.
The release date of Star Trek: Discovery S03
So with Lower Decks less advanced in the production cycle, it would be wise to assume that Star Trek: Discovery season 3. It will be the first to Follow Star Trek: Picard Outside the Space Pier. Picard will debut on January 23, 2020, in the US, so if CBS takes the desire for a permanent solution of Trek in the air seriously, Discovery will land so close to its premiere.
That would put the Star Trek: Discovery season 3 release date somewhere initially around April 2020. But now, there are no official updates for a release date
That would also be consistent with the release schedule for previous Discovery seasons – the first season released in September 2017, followed by the second season in January 2019, which represented a 16-month gap. The Star Trek: Discovery for season 3 release date for April 2020 was 15 months after the season 2 landing, so the timing was undoubtedly within acceptable parameters. But now, due to the pandemic, we can expect it by early next year.
