The 2000s show hit, Gossip Girl is all set to return on screen and what you can expect in this modern age world, is more glamour, more richness and more famed prep-school teens. The show will be helmed by the original creators, Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage and the reboot/ sequel series will see an entirely new generation (Gen-Z) in its revival.
Headed by the original executive producers, the show will stream on HBO Max and will be set eight years after the original show. In the age of bloggers and influencers, the show will see a new set of teens from a different perspective but in the same setting. Gossip Girl was a huge hit when it had released and now it seems that the revival will be no less.
Gossip Girl Revival: When Will It Release?
Officially, the show was set to release in 2020. However, the ongoing Corona pandemic has brought a delay and now, the show is scheduled to release in 2021. HBO Max chief content officer told Vulture in May, ‘They hadn’t even started production yet; they were in pre-production and ready to roll’. Hence, an official release date has not been revealed, and we won’t see it before 2021.
The show will consist of 10, hour-long, episodes. An official summary for the narrative of Gossip Girl 2.0 has been revealed, ‘Eight years after the original website went dark, a new generation of New York private school teens are introduced to the social surveillance of Gossip Girl. The prestige series will address just how much social media – and the landscape of New York itself – has changed in the intervening years.’
Gossip Girl Revival: Who Will Feature In The Cast?
Since the narrative will see new school teens, we expect an entirely new batch of fresh faces to be cast in the revival show. And we do have them. Until now, the cast of Gossip Girl 2.0 includes Tavi Gevinson, Thomas Doherty, Adam Chanler-Berat, Zion Moreno, Whitney Peak, Eli Brown, Emily Alyn Lind, Johnathan Fernandez and Jason Gotay. Character details are yet to be revealed for the cast members.
One original cast member is set to return and will also reprise her unique role. Kristen Bell will be returning as the show’s narrator and the voice of Gossip Girl. In a joint statement, showrunners, Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage and Joshua Safran said, ‘Kristen Bell has always been and will always be the voice of Gossip Girl.’ Well, we agree.
