This movie will be developed on the screenplay by Greg Russo and Dave Callaham and a story by Oren Uziel and Russo.

The movie is based on the Mortal Kombat video game franchise created by Ed Boon and John Tobias. It serves as a reboot to the previous Mortal Kombat films and follows the 1977 Mortal Kombat: Annihilation. It is a martial-arts fantasy action film.

The movie has on official release date and will be seen in theatres on January 15, 2021. The filming for the movie which took place from September to December 2019 is now complete. It also seems that the production of the movie is completed. Hence, Corona has not affected the movie. In fact, the movie was slated to release on March 5, 2021, but has been pushed forward to January 15.

The cast has been finalized for the 2021 release. Tadanobu Asano will be playing Raiden, Mehcad Brooks as Jackson Briggs, Elissa Caldwell as Nitara, Chin Han as Shang Tsung, Max Huang as Kung Lao, Josh Lawson as Kano, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Sisi Stringer as Mileena and Joe Taslim as Sub-Zero. Additionally, Lewis Tan and Matilda Kimber will appear in undisclosed roles.

Mortal Kombat games are known for the violence and gore it portrays. And to make up for the previous films that didn’t do well, Mortal Kombat will be rated ‘R’ and show all the gruesomeness it is known for.

There isn’t much to know unless Warner Brothers release some teasers or, much better, a trailer.

However, we have word that the trailer for the movie might release soon. When a fan asked Todd Garner for a trailer on Twitter, he responded with, ‘I think this summer’. This means that the trailer will be released at least six months early. Yay!
