The lockdown imposed due to the Coronavirus outbreak had intervened with the plans for production of the show. However, the government guidelines of the region where the filming has to take place has lifted some restrictions.

PEAKY BLINDERS season six has been given the green light for cast and crew to return to filming the next instalment of the Shelby family drama. However, fans should expect to see some significant changes to the BBC series as the show must adhere to government guidelines when it comes to filming. (Courtesy: Express.co.uk)

We are anticipating the return of all the main cast members (of course keeping in mind who is still alive on the show). However, there is one person, who is live on the show but may not reprise her role. We are talking about Helen McRory. We saw Aunt Polly tell Tommy that she was leaving the family business during the tense finale of Season 5. But, this could also mean that her role will become more prominent in the forthcoming seasons and the series will explore what she does after leaving the family business.

If the latter is to be the case, new additions to the cast are bound to occur. As of now, we don’t have any official input so we cannot say much.

We are anticipating that Gina (played by Anya Taylor-Joy) will play a significant role in the upcoming season. Anthony Byrne (who directed Season 5) told GQ, “She’s a player, she’s a manipulator. She’s part of a wider plan.

Aunt Polly’s decision on quitting the family business may also be explored. That is all we can say on the storyline for now.

There is no word on the release date either. The previous seasons didn’t have a consistent pattern of releases so the premiere date for the next season is also highly unpredictable.

Also, although the green light has been given for the makers to return to filming, the lockdown restrictions haven’t been lifted entirely. This is bound to hamper with many details of filming. So, the release can be on a very later date.

We can expect the series to return by mid or late 2021.

However long it takes, we know it will be worth the wait!
