Lost in Space is an American sci-fi television series and is a re-imagining of the 1965 TV series of the same name, which itself was based on the novel, The Swiss Family Robinson. It is a Netflix Original Series following the adventures of a family of space colonists whose spaceship veers off course.
When does Season 3 come out?
Netflix has confirmed the renewal of the series for a third season, which sadly will be it’s last too. With the first season coming out in April 2018, and the second in December 2019, the third season can be expected to be out in 2021.
Zack Estrin confirmed that a trilogy of Lost in Space was always part of the plan and that viewers and fans would have a lot to look forward to this time around.
What can we expect from Season 3?
With the Season Two finale, we saw the Robinson family being split apart into two generations.
“A big thing happened at the end of Season 2: the kids and parents are split apart,” showrunner Zack Estrin said to Den of Geek. “We’re going to pick up with two separate stories in season three.
The third season will focus on two story-lines and point of views, and how the kids and the parents find their way back to each other. It will be interesting to see how the children manage without their parents’ guidance as they set out on their own.
Co-creator Matt Sazama said the writers were inspired to follow this story-line from the original series. “We said we had to do this beat on the show,” Sazama says. “It’s a direct inspiration from the old black-and-white first season of Lost in Space.”
“It’s a reference to contemporary times with refugees and children who are often doing long journeys across borders and have to survive on their own and say goodbye to their parents. It’s a sci-fi show, so it’s not the same, but we felt it was an emotion that is worthy of being on our show,” said Sharpless, and it makes sense since the original series was made in 1965.
When will the trailer be out?
We can expect the trailer to be out by the end of 2020. With production houses on a break because of the corona-virus crisis, it is possible a lot of dates might be pushed back. Nothing has been confirmed as of now.
We can expect the main cast to return for Season 3. Molly Parker and Toby Stephens as the parents and Maxwell Jenkins, Taylor Russell, Mina Sundwall as the kids will reprise their roles, along with Ignacio Serricchio and Parker Posey.
With the coronavirus lockdown, now is the time to binge on Lost in Space (Season 1 and 2) on Netflix!
