The Umbrella Academy is an American superhero series on Netflix as an Original. The series is based on the ‘The Umbrella Academy,’ a comic book series published by Dark Horse Comics. The series first aired on February 15, 2019.

What Does the Plot Entail?

A dark comedy, the show is created by Steve Blackman and developed by Jeremy Slater. The plot revolves around a family of siblings who are dysfunctional but also superheroes. Seven children were adopted by a billionaire and made into a superhero team called ‘The Umbrella Academy.’ The children were to save the world, and their delusional upbringing left lasting damage.

The show was renewed for a second season on April 2, 2019. The shooting wrapped up for the same by November 2019. However, no official date has been given out for the release of season 2. But it is confirmed that the release will be sometime in 2020. Netflix has teased on Twitter with a long line of posters and short clips. Hence, the release date accompanied by a trailer might be on the way.

Similarly, with the lack of an official date and trailer, the plot of the second season is left unsaid. The finale of season one saw Vanya blasting off a chunk of moon, hence, causing destruction of the planet Earth. There is no further news as to what happens, and the season one remains a classic cliff-hanger. Showrunner Steve Blackman told the Hollywood Reporter:

“The truth is, we don’t know where they are. We don’t know what happened to them. I wanted this to really be the best of cliff-hangers, in that you are like ‘Wait, what? What happened?’ It gives us a lot of openness and legroom to tell the best story we can.”

Who Are the Cast Members?

The series that gained a viewership of 45 million households in the first month of its release has a very engaging caste. It includes Ellen Page, Tom Hopper, Emmy Raver-Lampman, David Castaneda, Cameron Britton, Aidan Gallagher, Robert Sheehan, and Mary J. Blige. There is a huge supportive cast too, and they include Sheila McCarthy, Peter Outerbridge, Kate Walsh, Yusuf Gatewood, and Marin Ireland.

The showrunner, directors, and actors are quite tight-lipped as to where the show is going. There is no particular plot, release date and trailer for Season 2. Hence, it is difficult to say where the future of the franchise will lead to. Maybe there will be a third season, maybe not, who knows!
