An American action thriller, Top Gun: Maverick is going to be back in the theatres after thirty-four years. First released in 1986, the film brought immediate success to its protagonist, Tom Cruise. And the movie is back with a sequel that will be releasing on June 24, 2020. After two pushbacks, with its original release date on July 12, 2019, and then June 26, 2020, a final date has now been fixed.
What is the Movie About?
The first Top Gun was a classic action movie and hence, was a huge success. The film showcased a talented pilot, his rivalry with his fellow student, and his attraction towards his instructor. The sequel will see similar packed scenes of action and thrill. Maverick (Tom Cruise) and Iceman (his rival, Val Kilmer) return to the US Navy. Except for their cold war, this time, the fight is against the Russians. Tom Cruise wanted the movie to be real and, therefore, performed all his stunts, including flying the airplanes. He commented in 2019 San Diego’s Comic-Con:
“Everything you see in this film is for real. We are working with the Navy, all of the flying you see in this picture is real, I really wanted to give you all an experience of what it is to be inside that aircraft.”
Who Will be in the Movie?
The two lead roles will be back with their original artists. Tom Cruise will star as Peter ‘Maverick’ Mitchell, and Val Kilmer will star as Tom ‘Iceman’ Kazansky. Other actors making an appearance would be Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Tom Hamm, Lewis Pullman, Glen Powell, Ed Harris, Monica Barbaro, Jay Ellis, Danny Ramirez, and many more.
The movie is directed by Joseph Kosinski and already has several trailers starting in July 2019 and then one in December 2019.
Whatever the plot entails are picked up from the different trailers. Hence, no definitive plot is in the news. However, several fan theories have been put in place to create buzz and excitement. The foremost fan theory is the jacket that Maverick wore in the first movie. The jacket had patches of flags of the USA, Japan, Taiwan. However, the new trailer shows Maverick wearing the same jacket except for the flags of Japan and Taiwan are replaced by the Communist Party of China. Fans speculate it is because of the rising market of films in China since the first movie. Also, Tencent Pictures – a part of Chinese company Tencent – has co-financed the sequel. Hence, the flag changes.
