With a plot having its origin from William Golding’s, Lord of the Flies, “The Society” is probably one of Netflix’s most exciting series release from last year. Here is everything you need to know about the show before you start your binge!
What makes Society so interesting?
The very premise of the show is so beautifully set up to spell chaos and danger while giving us a much-needed commentary on our everyday interactions.
In the town of West Ham, Connecticut, we have introduced to our protagonists a group of high school students ready to go out on their field trip. However, misfortune strikes them when their trip is cancelled, and they are forced to return home early. They soon find out that all the adults of the town have disappeared and the youth are the only living population of the city.
Soon an unequal distribution of power erupts between two groups of teenagers and the remaining episodes of the series deals about the unfairness of this power-division and the chaos that ensues.
A lot of thought-provoking and self-reflective questions are raised by this show about where power truly lies in a society. The conflicts that arise between the different classes of students in deciding their roles and the rules that need to be established give us a clear glimpse of how anarchy works in the modern-day.
Outwardly, the show might look like your everyday Young-adult soap, but there are some major themes discussed poignantly in the show that makes it a much relevant show not only for the teenagers but for all of us out there.
Can we expect a new season of the show?
Netflix has already given the nod for the new season of the show in July of last year, and the production began very shortly after this announcement. Under normal circumstances, the show would have been released by May of this year. However, due to the pandemic quarantine, we are expected to experience some significant setback in the show’s release.
