After the events of season 4 of The Last Kingdom, Wessex will have a strong leader who the people can follow and look up to.
A picture leaked online reveals that Edward (Timothy Innes) will be a warrior in the coming season. The behind-the-scenes image shared on Instagram shows a wounded king kneeling in the field with his sword in his hand, confirming that it is a post-battle scene.
The Last Kingdom Season 4 Release Date:
In April 2019, Netflix confirmed that filming had begun on the new season.
In July 2019, their Instagram page invited fans to “join Uhtred next year Netflix as the battle continues,” hinting that the fourth season will arrive in 2020.
The Last Kingdom Season 4 Cast:
If Netflix completely follows The Pagan Lord, then that story jumps a decade in the future, making the cast entirely different for the series.
Including Uhtred’s children by Gisela, who in the books are all grown up, Alexander Dreymon would return as Uhtred of Bebbanburg, and he would be challenging his uncle Aelfric, played by Joseph Millson.
More of the returning cast includes Ian Hart (Father Beocca), Toby Regbo (Aethelred), Emily Cox (Brida), Timothy Innes (Kind Edward), Eliza Butterworth (Aelswith), Mark Rowley (Finan), Millie Brady (Aethelflaed), Magnus Bruun (Cnut) and Jeppe Beck Laursen (Hasten).
Two big names have come up for the next season:
- Prime Suspect 1973 star Stefanie Martini will join the cast as Eadith
- Jamie Blackley (The Halcyon, If I Stay) will join the cast as Aethelred’s new right-hand man Eardwulf.
The Last Kingdom Season 4 Plot:
The new king leading his people in battles is shown as a completely different man as compared to the previous king. The early king relied on his warriors, especially Uhtred (Alexander Dreymon), to win his battles against the invading Danes.
Uhtred will continue being the king’s best man in the next season, but it is yet to be seen if a warrior-king will prove worthy for the Lord of Bebbanburg.
