Love it or hate it, the superhero genre isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. The Boys is an Amazon series based on the comic by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, superheroes are anything but super. And that’s precisely the kind of portrayal people want to see.

We may have ways to go before we get a second dose of the Seven and the Boys, but there’s information coming out already about the upcoming season. Here’s everything you need to know about The Boys Season 2.

The fact that Amazon went ahead for a sophomore season of The Boys before its first episode aired says a lot about their faith in the series. It points to the possibility of getting a release date soon – although as of September 2019, the only thing we know about The Boys Season 2 is that it’ll premiere sometime in 2020.

Filming on The Boys Season 2 began in August 2019, so it seems the release of Season 2 is the same time of year that its first season hit Amazon Prime Video. Season 1 technically aired on July 26, 2019, but fans were able to watch the show several hours before its official release date. If Amazon continues this same pattern, we may be getting Season 2 of The Boys at the beginning of summer 2020.

Who’s in The Boys Season 2’s Cast?

The original cast of The Boys are set to return for Season 2 — including Karl Urban as Billy Butcher, Jack Quaid as Hugh “Hughie” Campbell, Anthony Starr as Homelander, Erin Moriarty as Starlight, and Chase Crawford as the Deep.

The official new cast member joining the series for Season 2 is Aya Cash, known from her work at the FX comedy. You’re the Worst. Joining Cash are two Timeless alums — Goran Visnjic and Claudia Doumit. According to Deadline, Visnjic will play Alistair Adana, the “charismatic and shadowy leader of a mysterious church,” while Doumit will cast as Victoria Neuman, “a young wunderkind congresswoman.”

What’s the Plot of The Boys Season 2?

When we last left the group of anti-heroes on Season 1, the future of the corrupt superheroes known as the Seven — and of Vought International, the company that manages the team  — was up in the air. Season 1 finale we dealt with had to do with Billy Butcher and his season-long vendetta against Homelander. When Butcher understood that his wife Becca (Shantel VanSanten) was still alive and also raising her and Homelander’s 8-year-old child, Butcher was left in a position that not even comic fans know the outcome of.

Now that Vought International vice president Madelyn Stillwell (Elisabeth Shue) is out of the picture, Season 2 of The Boys will also have to deal with what will come of Homelander, as well as the future of Vought. Chances are that we’ll see more of the company’s internal politics come 2020. We’re sure to get a variety of Supes in the mix, considering the addition of Stormfront to the cast.

We won’t be seeing it until season 3. The Boys creator Eric Kripke promised that the show would explore the infamous Herogasm storyline. Perhaps Season 2 will plant those particular seeds that will ultimately grow on Season 3 of The Boys.
