BBC’s top science fiction show ‘Doctor Who’ returned with its 12 seasons in the new year. With only four episodes out, the show has gotten some really good ratings. Since last year, rumors about the season 13 were out. Chris Chibnall has confirmed the rumor in an interview.
The season 13 hasn’t been confirmed officially by BBC yet. But since season 12 is doing well and the work for season 13 is in progress already, they won’t take much time to announce as soon as the season 12 ends.
Who’s Coming Back?
Chris has hinted that some old faces would be returning to show. They are hinting that Jodie Whittaker might return as the Doctor in the new season. The current cast in season 12, Mandip Gill, Tosin Cole, Bradley Walsh, might return with their respective roles.
Talking about the new casting, Chris said, “There are lots of new faces, a few old faces. There are some things trickling through, which might be important. It’s different!”
The Plot of Season 13:
The writing panel contains Chris Chibnall himself, along with new additions Vinay Patel, Pete McTighe, and Maxine Alderton in the lead. They are already plotting ideas and storylines for where to take the Doctor and her friends in 2021. Their plan is to develop the characters and their background stories more and give them depth.
Chris is calling the series an ‘ambitious project.’ He said in a discussion with fans that “It feels like a step up. It’s probably more ambitious than last year: scale, storytelling, everything. I would say we are aiming to keep moving forward and up. There are bigger moments this year.”
Asking the Whittaker about her playing doctor’s role again, she said, “I felt more comfortable because playing it during my second season is obviously less nerve-wracking than day one of season one. Now, it’s second skin already.”
We can expect the Season 13 in early 2021.
