When Avengers: Endgame was released in 2019, millions of fans flocked to the theatres. In the final moments of the battle, the mystic hammer was wielded by none other than Captain America. Marvel fans worldwide rejoiced after this definitive conclusion to the debate. (Whether Cap is worthy of yielding the Mjolnir?)
Natalie Portman is back!
It had a huge impact on the events of Endgame, but it may serve a bigger purpose in the making. One of the movies revealed in the upcoming Phase was Thor: Love & Thunder. Natalie Portman will reprise her role as Jane Foster. She shocked everyone in SDCC 19 by yielding a replica of Mjolnir and rightly won Comic-Con.
Of course, Comic Book Fans already knew this. In October 2014, Jane Foster appeared as Thor before taking up the mantle as the new Valkyrie.
The Plot-Hole Dilemma
While a lot of fans liked Rogers yielding the weapon, some grunted. Christopher Markus (Avengers: Infinity War, Captain America: Civil War among others) has expressed his concern.
He even admitted that it breaks the rules of Thor’s powers that was made evident in Ragnarok while others rubbed it off as a plot-hole.
But in Thor, Odin banishes his son to earth and enchants Mjolnir. He does this by saying the exact words: “Whosoever holds this hammer if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor.”
This may offer an explanation to why Cap could summon it and even hit Thanos with the might of the mystic Mjolnir.
What does this mean for MCU?
Cap’s usage of the hammer somewhat complies with the comics. It is also a fact that someone who can lift the Mjolnir can get a set of Thor’s replicated powers.
In Avengers: Age of Ultron, Vision could’ve even got some of Thor’s power, but it’s too late to say that.
