Prepare your war cries! The Last Kingdom, Netflix’s historical drama based on Bernard Cornwell’s The Saxon Stories novel series, has been renewed for a fourth season.
The Last Kingdom made its debut on 10th October 2015. The Second season released in March 2017, and the Third season rolled out in November 2018.
The Last Kingdom Season 4 Release Date
A month after the end of the third season, the show’s renewal was announced with a post on the Official Page of The Last Kingdom in December 2018.
Netflix confirmed in April 2019 that filming has officially begun, and there’s going to be ten new episodes. In July, the show’s Instagram page called for fans to “Join Uthred next year on Netflix as the battle continues.”
Judging by these facts and that the other seasons had a gap of a year and a half between them, the next season is most likely to roll out in mid-2020.
About The Last Kingdom. Things you should know
The show is set in the 9th Century AD. Based on Bernard Cornwell’s ‘The Saxon Stories’ novels, each season follows the events of two books. Uhtred, a Saxon boy, brought up by Danes, is our hero. He had been captured and raised as their own by The Danes.
Uthred is forced to travel to Wessex after he betrays the Danes by killing the Danish warlord, Ragnar the Elder, who was Uthred’s adoptive father.
Once he arrives at Wessex, he offers assistance and knowledge of the Danes’ battle tactics to the Wessex King, Alfred.
The Last Kingdom Season 4 Cast
If Netflix were to follow the timeline of the books, it would mean a fresh batch of young actors will be introduced. It would include Uthred’s children by Gisela, who are all grown up in the books.
Alexander Dreymon, who plays Uthred, is returning. Fans will also see Aelfric, played by Joseph Millson, who is not in exactly friendly terms with Uthred.
Ian Hard (Father Beocca), Timothy Innes (Kind Edward), Eliza Butterworth (Aelswith), Emily Cox (Brida), Toby Regbo (Aethelred), Mark Rowley (Finan), Magnus Bruun (Cnut), Millie Brady (Aethelflaed) and Jeppe Beck Laursen (Haesten) are among the returning cast.
Netflix has also confirmed that Stefanie Martini will join as Eadith, “Aethelred’s new love conquest,” and Jamie Blackley will join as Eardwulf, Aethelred’s new right-hand man.
Where to watch The Last Kingdom?
The first two seasons are available on both the BBC and Netflix, but Season Three is available exclusively on Netflix. It’s highly unlikely that Season 4 will be available anywhere other than Netflix.
Till then, get your war-gear ready!
